From Rashad Pollard, new SESI Board member Ruslan Morris was appointed to head up Subud Enterprise Services International (SESI) at the World Congress.
Since then he has formed his team: Harris Madden from Australia; Marcus Hamilton from the UK, and Rashad Pollard from the USA. Ruslan lives in Indonesia. Our team has got off to a flying start. The immediate focus has been to establish close working relationships with WSA and its Executive, Luke Penseney and Maxwell Fraval (we are operating as part of the WSA Executive). We have established liaisons with SDIA, SICA, SIHA and MSF. We will work with Advisors as well. So far Hanafi Fraval, Susannah Rosenthal, Rosetta Narvaez and Stuart Cooke are on the Advisory team. Additional Advisors will be added as we go along. We plan to work towards understanding and building a long-term, strategic role for SESI in supporting the development of business enterprises worldwide, and employing business expertise across our Association. We are working with others to explore the history and lessons learned from our SESI and enterprise initiatives in the past. We want to avoid re-inventing the wheel; to build on successes, and learn from any past mistakes. Our work plan is evolving from the objectives and projects expressed by WSA. We will be establishing a more comprehensive long-term SESI program at a meeting planned for June in Indonesia. No doubt, other areas will be added as our long-term strategy matures: 1. We will continue to build close links to all our Affiliates -- to add SYA, as well as the new Endeavours project (through Marcus), and build relationships with national SES representatives. We will establish an SESI web site (lead by Harris). 2. SDI's response to our working together, to link business approaches with social work, has been immediate. Why not start a Micro-Credit project? We have agreed to develop a joint SDI/ SESI pilot project. We are researching possible locations. Indonesia appears interesting as they have a significant micro-credit track record in the country; we know the banking business there, and SD Indonesia is in contact with existing projects. Ruslan and SD Indonesia are exploring this further. We will establish a joint, international Technical Support Group (to provide technical assistance to the pilot project and to support the establishment of a longer-term strategy and work plan, worldwide). Any members with micro-credit experience, from the banking or social sectors, can contact Rashad if they would like to join the Technical Support Group (see below). 3. We are holding discussions on collaboration with MSF. Areas will likely cover: support to asset and cash management; investment portfolios and securities holdings activities. We will, also, work to support the issue of linking business enterprises with the development of Subud Houses (property rentals and enterprise development linkages); to explore lessons learned and best practices, and disseminate the results. Ruslan will be our link to MSF. Our effort is still maturing. It is early days, but we have made a start! We welcome any and all inputs.
